Thoughts about Nascar Sprint Cup Races, Drivers and Teams

Kasey Kahne makes the chase

Keasey Kahne is in, Tony Stewart is out. It’s only fair, he did win the most races this year he should be in the chase. It would have been nice for Tony Stewart to get in also, but I’m glad Kasey Kahne made it! Kevin Harvick passed Kyle Busch in the last lap to win the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 at Richmond. It was touch and go for Junior, Gordon and Hamlin fo awhile. Junior and Gordon both had brake problems and Hamlin was only running on 7 cylinders. In the end they all managed to stay in long enough to make the chase.

Here are the final Chase standings:

1. Matt Kenseth
2. Jimmie Johnson
3. Kevin Harvick
4. Kyle Busch
5. Denny Hamlin
6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
7. Mark Martin
8. Jeff Burton
9. Jeff Gordon
10. Kasey Kahne

Kasey Kahne still in the chase

Kasey Kahne won Sunday night in California and by doing so gave himself an opportunity to make it into the Chase. Question is, how good is that chance? In order for him to make it he has to run a perfect race at Richmond gaining every point that he can and someone else in the top 8 has to have some bad luck. The only two drivers who have clinched their spots are 1 and 2. Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson are definitely in no matter what happens. That also means that any driver between 3 and 10 could fall out of the Top 10 and Kasey Kahne would get in. If you’re interested in a good breakdown of what needs to happen, it is all spelled out here.

On a side note, I haven’t posted a lot this season as I was moving across country. I am in Arizona now and look forward to posting my thoughts for the rest of the season. Also, I am planning on getting tickets to PIR in November so I will be taking a lot of pictures to add to my thoughts.

Happy Racing!
