Racing Men Of Nascar

Thoughts about Nascar Sprint Cup Races, Drivers and Teams

Jimmie Johnson wins the 2006 Daytona 500

Finally the Daytona 500 and the NASCAR racing season kicks off!!

Jimmie Johnson wins the Daytona 500 for the first time on a caution after a green-white-checkered finish. Casey Mears got second and Ryan Newman pulled in third. This race was wild, check out some of the action below:

Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart got into each other and hit the wall during lap 48. Both had a little bit of damage. Jeff Gordon said he would accept 50% of the blame and pass 50% to Tony Stewart. Tony Stewart said BS, it was 100% Jeff Gordon.

I’m with Jeff on this one all Tony had to do was ease up a tiny bit and Jeff could have squeezed through. He was clearly tight and sliding up not TRYING to crash.

Jeff Green crashed in lap 80 and took with him Carl Edwards, Kyle Petty, J J Yeley and Joe Nemechek. In the interview afterwards he blamed Dale Jarrett for getting his left front bumper into his right rear. He said he can understand a rookie doing something like that but Dale Jarrett should know better.

WHOA!! Matt Kenseth was PUSHED off the track by Tony Stewart in lap 107 he flew back up the track into the wall (lot of good driving kept some guys from getting collected). He said on his radio “The 20 hit me. I can’t figure out what could’ve happened to Tony Stewart that would have caused an accident like that, it looked like it was completely on purpose.

Tony Stewart was penalized by Nascar and sent to the end of the longest lap. Matt Kenseth came driving up behind Tony Stewart on pit road and then backed off after his crew chief Robbie Reiser yelled at him. Then coming off pit road Matt Kenseth pushed Tony Stewart over (without touching him) but in doing that he passed Tony and Nascar blackflagged. Matt protested saying he didn’t do anything wrong. He refused to come in and Nascar took him down another lap.

Kurt Busch was hit by Jamie McMurray in lap 187 and lost a tire, went into the wall collecting Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon, Jeff Burton in the process. Kurt Busch asked if Jamie McMurray was going to be penalized. Jamie McMurray came on the radio and apologized.

Kyle Busch pushed Tony Stewart in lap 194 and got black flagged for aggressive driving. It’s not looking like Tony Stewart is going to be very popular after this race!

Jamie McMurray and Jeff Burton get into each other in lap 197 and catch Bobby Labonte in the wreck. What a shame for the first race of the #45 to end in a wreck in the last 8 laps.
