Dale Jarret wins the UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega
Dale Jarrett won Talladega after the field was frozen when Kyle Petty wrecked during the final lap. Tony Stewart finished in second place and once again took the points lead in the chase.
Jimmie Johnson smacked into the back of Elliot Sadler in lap 20 causing a 20 car wreck that infuriated some of the drivers. Johnson blamed Dale Earnardt, Jr saying that Jr had pushed him into Sadler. Jr called Johnson an “idiot, which I’m assuming is one of the nicer things that was said about Johnson after the wreck. Mark Martin was pushed into Michael Waltrip and Waltrip flipped his car twice. Both men took really hard hits but both walked away from their cars uninjured. Michael Waltrip was joking about it a few minutes later saying “First the world was right, then it was wrong, then it was right, then it was wrong, then it was right again!. He is so darned goofy!
In lap 65 Ryan Newman got into Casey Mears and cause a second wreck which damaged chase contenders Rusty Wallace and Greg Biffle. Scott Riggs tumbled end over end and had heavy damage to the drivers side of his car. After the race Newman apologised for causing the wreck.
When Rusty Wallace was interviewed he said the best part of the race was that he never has to come to Talladega again.
I think the best part of the race was at the end when Kyle Petty drove his wrecked car after the field was frozen to cross over the start/finish line!
